Kerrville Folk Festival

I just arrived home from 10 days at the Kerrville Folk Festival in Texas.  It was amazing.  On the first day I landed at the San Antonio airport and made my way to the

Wyatt Easterling, Terry Penney & Chet O'Keefe at the outdoor chapel at Quiet Valley Ranch.

festival ranch where I was met by thousands of music lovers there for the sole purpose of discovering and supporting songwriters!  On the second day, as a part of the New Folk Songwriters competition I played to a sold out crowd at the Threadgill Theatre.  The crowd was phenomenal!  Met so many great people who Ican now call my friends, such as Nashville songwriters Wyatt Easterling and Chet O’Keefe.  Thanks to everyone at Kerrville including the hundreds of volunteers for making my experience in Texas unforgettable.

Also a big thanks to Newfoundland and Labrador Arts Council and Music Newfoundland and Labrador who made the trip possible!

2010 JUNOs – Ruckus on the Edge!

[Greg Locke photo]

What a great week in St. John’s with the 2010 JUNOs and all the great events organized by the Ruckus on the Edge crew. Had such a great time at the Ruckus in the Round on Tuesday at the Delta.  Eight singer/songwriters including Mike MacDonald, Karla Pilgram, Harry Martin & I (Round 1) and Ron Hynes, Maureen Ennis, Amelia Curran & Sherman Downey (Round 2).  There was a wonderfully responsive audience of 600 seated in a circle around us. Met some great folks after the show.  Hope to see you all again soon. Keep in touch!

The Bronte

First gig on the Canadian Corner Ireland tour  – at the Bronte Music Centre in Rathfriland on February 22, 2010.  Dave Carroll, Terry Penney, Christina Martin, &  Dave Gunning.

The Canadian’s brought the snow with them. . . 15cm of snow on this night!  Schools were closed the next day.  The weather made the location all the more intimate.

Hello from Ireland

Settled in nicely in beautiful Holly Cottage in Rathfriland, County Down next to the breath-taking Mourne Mountains. Last night I had the pleasure of hearing L’Angelus in Belfast. . . fantastic! Today I dropped by RTE Radio out of Dublin for an interview and live performance. . .and a nice cup of tea. Then off to hang out with George Jones at U105 in Belfast. Always a pleasure George. Thanks again! Tonight the whole gang from the Canadian Corner will be at Holly Cottage – Dave Gunning, Dave Carroll, and Christina Martin. Katie and Stephen from L’Angelus will be dropping by as well. It’s going to be a great evening! Tomorrow we’re off to the Bronte Centre in Rathfriland for the Canadian Corner Songwriter’s Circle. Check it out at Bronte Music Club a 270 year old stone church where Emily Bronte’s (author of the classic novel Wuthering Heights) father was the vicar. I cannot wait to perform there!
